Investing in infrastructure
South Australia is investing in preschool infrastructure to support the roll-out of 3-year-old preschool from 2026.
South Australia’s Preschool Infrastructure Strategy
The Preschool Infrastructure Strategy is designed to support the growth of the state’s early childhood sector that is needed for the 3-year-old preschool roll-out. It details how the government will work with the sector to deliver new and expanded early childhood infrastructure where it’s needed, so all children can access 2 years of preschool by 2032.
Key actions of the strategy include:
- the Office for Early Childhood Development, as system steward, sharing estimates of where new preschool capacity is needed
- opening a new grants program for not-for-profit providers that will invest $40 million in projects over 4 years in areas needing additional preschool capacity
- expanding government preschools where needed, and readying services to welcome 3-year-olds
- establishing 20 integrated hubs.
The grants program will open in early 2025. Further details, including information around priority areas for infrastructure investment and detailed guidelines, will be shared in coming months.
